Hakka Abacus Seed (算盘子)

Hakka Abacus Seed (算盘子). A traditional Hakka dish.  This auspicious dish is popularly cooked during festive occasions as the abacus seeds signify wealth and reunion. Using yam and tapioca flour, rolled into round balls with a small depression in the middle that resembles that of the abacus 算盘. When cooked, it should be soft and chewy, and normally cooks with dried shrimps, minced meat, chinese dried mushrooms, etc.

WHAT YOU LEARN

Understanding the theory, ingredients and learn the skills and technique in

  • Preparation of all the ingredients in making the Abacus Seeds and the fillings to stir-fry with the Abacus Seeds.
  • Knead your own Abacus Seeds in class, and understanding the proportion of flour and yam.
  • Prepare the fillings to stir fry with Abacus Seeds.
  • Cook your own Abacus Seeds in class.
  • Bring home the Abacus Seeds stir fry with the fillings and share with your family.
